Essay Contest Winners
This year Council 920 had three schools enter the annual Knights of Columbus essay contest.

Rancho San Antonio Ticket Sales
Ranhco San Antonio is a Catholic faith-based facility which aids young men to move from being in trouble with the law to being productive members of society.
Every year, Council 920 sellls raffle tickets to help fund Rancho San Antonio.

920 Hosts Basketball Freethrow Contest
Knights of Columbus Council 920 will be hosting the district's basketball freethrow contest on Saturday, February 13, from 9-11 a.m. at St. Anne's Church. The council will have seven of its winners from St. Anne's School and St. Sebastian's competing with winners from two other councils.

Council Meeting, February 2
Council 920 will be holding its monthly meeting for all members as well as Knights of Columbus members of other councils on Tuesday, February 2 at St. Anne Church and Shrine's hall (2011 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica, CA ).
Georges Ferres will be presenting a slideshow on his trip to Egypt. In addition, we will discuss topics such as Rancho San Antonio sales, Hollywood Bowl event, new donations made by the council, and more.

January meeting
Tuesday, January 5, is not only a few days before the BCS game ... it's also the monthly social and general meeting for Council 920. It's the first meeting of the year and decade!
This will be at the Monsignor Wood Conference Center (a.k.a. Hall) at St. Anne's, 2011 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica (cross street is 20th). So, 7:00 p.m. dinner prepared by expert Alfonso Flores followed at 8 p.m. by the business meeting led by Deputy Grand Knight Mike Cadena.

Passing of Brother Austin Martis
Brother Austin Martis, a member of Knights of Columbus Council 920 for 30 years, has passed away, aged 69 years. He kept in contact with the council even while living and visiting places around the world.

4th Degree Casino Trip
Council 920 is partners with Fourth Degree #2874, Our Lady of the Angels Assembly, in the Knights of Columbus (while some members stay with Fr. Hawe Assembly).
The Assembly is having a trip to Pala Casino on Saturday, November 21, 2009. It is open to everyone!
Cost: $25 (includes $10 in slot or table money)
Departure Location: St. Mark's Church, 940 Couer d' Alene, Venice, CA 90291
Meet: 7:30 a.m. for 08:00 PUNCTUAL departure

Memorial Mass, Sunday November 8
Sunday, November 8th is the annual Memorial Mass for Council 920.
The Mass is at 10 a.m. followed by a breakfast again by Alfonso Flores of Dos Hermanos Catering to be served in the smaller of the main floor rooms in the hall (where the council normally meets).
Cost is $5 per person; widows and clergy are guests of the council.

Fourth Degree: New Member
Congratulations to Council 920 Brother Lawrence Hicks who recently entered the patriotic order of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus at the Southern California exemplification. He is now a member of Our Lady Queen of the Angels Assembly as well as Council 920.

Charity: Ugandan donation
The officers of Knights of Columbus Council 920 have again approved a $100 donation to the foundation led by Fr. Fredrick Byaruhanga to aid the orphans of AIDS victims in Uganda. The foundation aids the children in receiving necessities, including education.
This donation reflects the virtue of charity the order encourages.

General Meeting, October 6
Knights of Columbus Santa Monica Bay Council 920 will be having its general monthly meeting, Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m., in the hall at St. Anne Church and Shrine (2011 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica, CA, 90404).
A dinner prepared by Brother Alfonso Flores will be served, followed by the meeting at 8 p.m.

Brother Knight Danny Bearer has passed away suddenly. He was a third degree Knight and long-time member of Council 920, known for talking about surfing and skateboarding.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church http://www.corpuschristichurch.com/ in Pacific Palisades.
May his soul rest in peace.
